In 2010, Raising Voices will roll out the SASA! approach within the Horn, East and Southern Africa and in Uganda in collaboration with the Center for Domestic Violence Prevention (CEDOVIP). A call for applications was circulated widely and 6 organizations in the region and 8 organizations in Uganda will be selected through a competitive process. This three year initiative will increase the number and quality of community-based primary VAW prevention programs in the region.
The initiative has five key components:
- Competency-based training and mentoring on the SASA! approach for preventing violence against women and HIV.
- Provision of annual onsite technical support to 6 partner organizations.
- Hosting partner organizations at the Raising Voices and CEDOVIP Learning Center.
- Establishment of learning centers within at least 4 participating CSOs to demonstrate practical implementation of SASA! and build skills in others interested in the approach.
- Documentation and distribution of a case studies publication that illustrates practical experiences of using the SASA! methodology in various communities, describing lessons learned and providing recommendations for VAW prevention efforts in the region.
