Partners in Prevention

In 2008, Raising Voices will launch a regional prevention initiative, Partners in Prevention that works with 10 organizations from the Horn, East and Southern Africa. This 3-year initiative seeks to increase the number and quality of community-based primary VAW prevention programs in the regions.

The initiative has four key components:

  1. A training course for representatives of 10 civil society organizations (CSOs) in the Horn, East and Southern Africa about GBV prevention as described in Mobilizing Communities to Prevent Domestic Violence: A Resource Guide for Organizations in East and Southern Africa.
  2. Provision of technical and seed support to at least 8 community-based VAW prevention projects in the Horn, East and Southern Africa.
  3. Establishment of learning centers within at least 5 participating CSOs to demonstrate practical implementation of VAW prevention programs and share lessons learned with others interested in prevention.
  4. Documentation and distribution of a case studies publication that illustrates various community-based approaches, describes lessons learned and makes recommendations for VAW prevention efforts in the regions.
