“Views on Violence,” competition
Raising Voices has launched a nationwide competition to seek your views and ideas for preventing violence against children. If you have a story to tell or an opinion to share about violence against children in Uganda you could win a prize of 1 million Uganda shillings.
Your contribution could be about your experience of violence, it could be about a child that you know who has experienced violence, it could be about your perception of violence against children at home or at school or what you think should be done to prevent violence against children. You can write a story, draw a picture, record a digital story (on tape or video), or whatever other way you choose. Written contribution should not exceed 500 words and recorded material should not exceed 10 minutes.
All Ugandan nationals currently living in Uganda, both adults and children are eligible to enter this competition. The best contribution as judged by an independent panel will win 1 million Uganda shillings. Two runners-up will win 500,000/= and 250,000/= respectively. All entries must be submitted not later than 31st December 2007. Entries from children will be judged using a different scale from that of adults.
Judges will use the following criteria to assess the entries:
- Are children presented as responsible agents who have their own views and priorities?
- Does your contribution analyze why the incident happened?
- Does your contribution question the underlying assumptions regarding violence against children?
- Does your contribution adopt a responsible tone and avoid sensationalizing the story?
- Does your contribution use images or illustrations that preserve the dignity of the person?
- Does your contribution propose or create space for views that suggest a responsible response to violence against children?
