National Prevention of Violence against Women (NPVAW)
To realize significant gains in preventing violence against women and women’s vulnerability to HIV, there is a need to reach out and build a critical mass across the country. Since 2006, CEDOVIP, in partnership with Raising Voices has promoted and enabled the prevention of domestic violence through working in partnership with 10 civil society organizations from 9 districts throughout Uganda. CEDOVIP and Raising Voices are supporting eight non-governmental organizations over the next three years to incorporate VAW prevention into their existing programs. This will further roll out the SASA! methodology.
Currently, CEDOVIP works in partnership with Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development, and the Uganda Women’s Network to address gender-based violence in 8 districts in the Busoga region in Eastern Uganda. This is a five-year Government of Uganda-Irish Aid Joint Programme to address GBV in the Busoga sub-region. CEDOVIP’s role is to mobilise communities to prevent and respond to GBV.
The objective of NPVAW is: To promote prevention of violence against women in Uganda by bringing together civil society organizations (CSOs) and the government structures to build their skills to prevent violence against women.
